Selection Process

Imperial College London uses UCAT scores to shortlist applicants for interview. Here’s the process:

  1. Minimum academic requirements are checked first.
  2. UCAT scores are then used to rank applicants.
  3. Top third of applicants (approximately) are invited to interview.
  • SJT Band 3 is the minimum accepted. SJT Band 4 is discounted.

Personal Statement

The personal statement may be discussed during the MMI process. Interviewers may ask questions based on:

  • Motivation and understanding of medicine as a career

  • SJT: Band 3 minimum (Band 4 will be discounted)
  • Minimum threshold for interview:
    • Total Score:
      • Normal applicants: 3,020
      • WP applicants: 2,820

The Interview

Imperial College London conducts 7 station MMIs, split into two parts after COVID:

Part 1: Online-Asynchronous Section

  • Date: January 2025

Part 2: Face-to-Face Section

  • Date: February 2025 (conducted online)

The MMI tests:

  • Teamwork and leadership
  • Motivation to study medicine
  • Understanding the role of a doctor
  • Empathy and breaking bad news
  • Ethics scenarios
  • Imperial and contribution to the School of Medicine
  • Resilience

Scoring:

  • 6 points for content
  • 4 points for communication

Academic Requirements

  • A-Levels: AAA, including Biology and Chemistry, plus a third subject.
  • Typical offer: A*AA (made to at least 80% of applicants).
  • GCSEs: GCSEs are not taken into account, but Grade B in English is required.

Resits

A-Level resits are not accepted unless mitigating circumstances apply.
